President’s Message
The 2022 Rocky Mountain Urological Society annual meeting this past April continued with the successful in-person/virtual hybrid format. Thank goodness since I was ill the second day of the meeting (not COVID…phew!) but could still moderate and participate from my home office. A special thanks to Drs Wisner and Oliver for stepping in to help on the second day. Over 100 participants participated in the meeting. The lectures by Drs Porten, Kraus, and Myers on urothelial cancer, lower urinary tract voiding dysfunction, and trauma/reconstructive urology were very well received. I was extremely proud of the fantastic job performed by the various speakers and our staff. As a result, the event went smoothly and provided valuable education for all involved. It’s important to note that as a member, you have access to recordings and notes from most of the lectures from the 2022 RMUS meeting.
Our 2023 Rocky Mountain Urological Society meeting is scheduled to take place on April 14 and 15 at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Denver. This site continues to meet our needs with ample meeting space for our speakers, poster presentations, and vendor exhibits. As a pioneer in hybrid meetings, we will continue to offer an in-person and virtual format to allow for maximal participation from our regional Urologists and supporting providers. That said, we are encouraging as many as possible to participate in person with discounts for in-person attendance. Also, we are steeply discounting in-person registration for members that travel from great distances acknowledging the extra travel costs for these participants. Also, board membership positions will expand to get more members involved. We expect this to be a great meeting!
We have three fantastic national visiting speakers for this year’s meeting. Dr Phil Pierorazio from the University of Pennsylvania will be a lead speaker in our kidney cancer sessions. Dr Kelly Casperson from Pacific Northwest Urology Specialists (and a CU resident alum) will be informing participants about the female pelvic health and how social media/podcasting can help a urology practice. Dr Davis Viprakasit from University of North Carolina will be speaking on kidney stones and endourology.
In addition to these visiting experts, we have an unbelievable talent pool in the Rocky Mountain region and will include a diverse panel of local experts presenting lectures from systemic therapy for kidney cancer to social media to our certified COPIC lecture.
I encourage all our members to renew their membership in the RMUS and to register for the RMUS 2023 meeting. I look forward to continuing our tradition of exceptional urologic meetings with the highest quality lectures to help our membership provide outstanding care in their communities.
